The Wanton Looks grabbed the Township audience by the throat when their set finally started near 1 a.m. as the headliner of the four-band bill Saturday night. Traci Trouble sounded the starter's pistol with rumbling bass, Meg Thomas answered with a couple cymbal crashes and launched into rapid-fire drumming, and Inga Olson joined the fray with swashbuckling guitar. The opening salvo of "Demons" blasted through the crowd like a cannonball.

The trio followed "Demons" with the Bangles-esque "Worst Side of Me." The one-two punch demanded the attention of everyone in the Logan Square bar. The Wanton Looks stayed on the offensive for the rest of the show. They had the confidence and swagger to play two new songs, "To Be Free" and "Better Off," which sound like good bets to be on the band's next album. Above all, this was Olson's night. She continues to thrive in her relatively new role as the lone guitarist in the band. The "Tiny Terror" fired off a solo on "To Be Free," dug in on "See You Again" and ventured into the crowd on "Electromagnetic Force."

The Wanton Looks make a habit of leaving the crowd wanting more. That was the case this time as well. It's time for them to stretch their sets to at least an hour.

Lisa Doll & the Rock n Roll Romance from Baltimore lived up to their name. They had the most classic rock sound of the four acts on the bill. A band since only September, the group's enthusiasm was contagious. They dove headfirst into their performance with a freshness.

Rat Lips from Milwaukee provided a dose of hardcore punk. Their tuneful spectacle eventually degenerated into a mess. Brash lead singer Sarah Danger Underhill-Tuffington said she wasn't feeling well, then spent considerable time during the performance sitting and lying on the floor.

Flesh Panthers started the night with a straight shot of punk. They proved to be a worthy bookend for the Wanton Looks.
